About
For much of my life, I felt stuck and disconnected, without a clear sense of why. I could see patterns in how I was feeling and responding, but I didn’t have words for what was driving them.
In working with one my own therapists, I was able to process trauma in my body, which I didn’t have words for because I didn’t have the capacity for words when it happened. I began to understand how early experiences can stay with us and quietly shape how we move through the world.
That process changed my life. It helped me see how we often carry forward ways of coping that once made sense, even when they no longer serve us.
I believe people are incredible, and when given the right conditions—especially a sense of safety—we naturally move toward growth.
Clinical Approach
My style is open, flexible, and collaborative. Sessions tend to have a gentle structure—in that we will start with where you are and end with prompts to reflect or process. I will follow up on themes from past sessions, and believe in creating a collaborative, curious environment where we get to co-create, co-experiment, and co-evaluate what is happening, has happened, and will happen in your life.
People generally tell me that they enjoy having a direction to reflect on or follow up from past sessions. I have a lot of experience and end up using a variety of interventions based on what feels helpful.
Quote
“All behavior makes sense. It still needs to be boundaried, or even changed. But if we start with the premise that it makes sense, we tend to approach the behavior with curiosity instead of control.”
—Robyn Gobbel
Who I Work With
I genuinely love this work—getting to watch people become more of themselves is one of the best parts. I often work with people who are hard on themselves, feel disconnected or numb, or feel things very intensely. I tend to be a good fit for reflective, curious people who are open to vulnerability and want to better understand themselves while building a deeper sense of safety.
Outside the Office
I’m Canadian and love hockey. I was a 90s nerd kid with passions for movie quotes and video games. I live in a world of neurodiversity with extended family, two kids, and a partner with “spicy brains.” I’ve found a lot of freedom and joy in discovering myself through therapy, somatic work, and moving my body. I’ve been running regularly and am pursuing longer distance running. Despite being an introvert, I love people and regularly prioritize connection with others.
Training & Background
I hold a Master of Counseling Psychology and a Master of Divinity from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology, along with a certificate of proficiency in substance use. My training has focused heavily on trauma, grief, end-of-life care, and somatic approaches. I’ve met requirements for trauma certification and am currently in process of the Somatic Experiencing training. I also have a background in spirituality and experience working with spiritual trauma, which informs my integrative approach to therapy.
