About
Counseling is more than my job. It is a privilege and a gift. When I was a young married person-I experienced significant challenges both personally and relationally. Parenting also brought with it unexpected struggles. I saw a therapist and it changed the trajectory of my life. I understand feeling stuck, scared and hopeless. In the safety of the therapy relationship I was able to understand the parts of myself that were keeping me stuck and begin to lead with clarity and confidence. That's what I want to offer for my clients
Clinical Approach
I integrate several therapy approaches. I draw from Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. I also incorporate nervous system regulation and mindfulness approaches.
I am a Person Centered Therapist-that means you will receive a safe non-judgemental space to explore your own lived experience. In the counseling room-you can edit. You can change your mind and clarify what you mean. I value genuine authenticity and I model that in life and in work. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy seeks to identify ways our thinking impacts how we feel and what we do. Internal Family Systems addresses the deeper parts of ourselves-the ones that run the show-maybe parts we wish we didn’t have or ones we believe we need. In IFS therapy we can get to know those parts and begin to lead with clarity, perspective and courage.
Quote
“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where Nature may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike.”
—John Muir
Who I Work With
I work with adults who are willing to look beneath the surface and explore what might be blocking them. My clients have full lives but are struggling in some way. My clients are working hard to excel at home and work and find it difficult to slow down. They tend to over-function and don’t believe they can’t live any other way. They may feel so busy and overwhelmed. Therapy helps them pause and connect with those parts.
Outside the Office
When I am hiking -I feel the most alive. I love a good cup of coffee, sitting by a campfire and deep talks. I am captivated by hummingbirds-they are amazing marvels.
Creativity is my current focus. I love creating comfortable spaces where people feel welcome. I love working in the yard and growing plants and flowers. This summer I am taking an art class-this feels a bit outside my comfort zone and exciting.
Training & Background
My path to being a counselor was winding. My undergraduate work was to become a teacher. Instead after graduation, I ended up staying home with my kids for over 10 years. I cleaned houses for 20 years. In 2014, I went back to grad school. I graduated in 2019 with a Masters of Arts in Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. Real life experience and my own personal growth have been crucial to the work I do with clients.
